Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane is back with another new series, this time on the live action end of things. The Orville is a new hourlong sci-fi comedy series debuting this fall that is looking to usurp Galaxy Quest as the best of the Star Trek parodies. MacFarlane created the series and stars as an officer in a Starfleet surrogate some four hundred years in the future, who finally gets his shot at helming a ship, the titular Orville. The only problem is, his first officer just happens to be his ex-wife, played by Adrianne Palicki.
If you're not a fan of MacFarlane's unique brand of humor, allow me to pique your interest with the following... The pilot episode is being directed by Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau, and one of the alien crewmembers on the show is being voiced by Norm MacDonald. Even if you're tired of Star Trek spoofs or just can't get behind MacFarlane's live action antics, their participation alone should be enough to get you at least mildly excited.
FOX never should have canceled Family Guy. Not because it didn't deserve it, but because it means that now FOX will just throw untold sums of money at MacFarlane in hopes of him once more capturing lightning in a bottle. The problem is that he never captured lightning. It was likely just a firefly.
