We're less than a month away from the release of Universal's reboot of The Mummy, and this latest behind the scenes video introduces us to Russell Crowe's Henry Jekyll... as well as his alter ego Mr. Hyde. If you weren't aware, Universal is establishing a shared cinematic universe—a la Marvel's MCU—with the classic monsters they retain the rights to such as The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Dracula, and so on.
While Tom Cruise is ostensibly the star of this new film, he's playing arguably the least interesting character in the film. This leaves more room for classic hams like Crowe to come in and add a little monster gravitas to things. While this is probably the extent of Jekyll's role in the film, it's pretty undeniable that with a star of Crowe's caliber, they're setting him up for more movies down the road.
Hopefully The Mummy is a good enough flick to merit further sequels and connected films because they're coming, whether we want them or not. Might as well hope for the best at this point.
